The Different Types of Shrink Wrap

Shrink wrap has become one of the most popular alternatives when it comes to packing. This material comes in a large array of sizes as well as in different strengths. It can be used to pack all kinds of things including boxes, food, CDs, the list is endless.

There are three different types of shrink wrap that are commonly used for our day to day packing needs. These are the polyethylene shrink wrap, the polyolefin shrink wrap and the PVC shrink wrap. Polyethylene shrink wrap is more commonly known as all purpose shrink film. This is largely due to how versatile it is and can be used to wrap all different kinds of things. Polyethylene film is also quite durable against harsh climatic conditions. For this reason, it is a good option when one would want to wrap bigger items such as a boat or even a car if they would like to protect these against harsh winter climates. Another advantage of the polyethylene wrap is that it comprises of UVI protection. This ensures that whatever you wrap with it will be protected from any damage that could be caused by UV rays.

The second type of shrink wrap in the market is the polyolefin film. This type of shrink wrap tends to be much softer as well as smoother than the previous type of film. Polyolefin shrink wrap requires quite high temperatures for it to be able to shrink. It is commonly used to pack food items whether in delis, restaurants or even in households.

Lastly, there is the PVC shrink wrap. This is commonly used in the packaging of non perishable things. It comes in a multitude of eye catching colors. PVC tends to shrink at very low heat. Although it has been approved to be used as packaging film for food items, it is not advisable to do so due to the pungent odor it gives off.

Shrink wrap tends to come in two broad categories. The first is the single wound category. This is the type of shrink film that comes in one layer. Thus if you are packaging something, you would have to wrap the shrink film around it. The second category is the centerfold. This is convenient for items that can be easily tucked into the folds of the shrink wrap.
