Is a Cheap Coffee Grinder Worth Buying?
If you want to buy a cheap coffee grinder for your home, are you going to get a good product? Or is there a large difference between more expensive grinders and the cheaper ones? Grinders tend to work similarly regardless of the price you pay for them, so if you have a limited budget, a much better idea is to save money on the grinder and buy a nicer coffee brewer instead. There is a much bigger difference between brewers, to the point that the grinder cost should not matter as much.
A grinder simply needs to do one thing – grind coffee. There are not many different ways to do this, so any grinder you buy is just going to use a blade attached to a small motor to do the grinding. This grinding process does not take much energy, and the grinder does not need to run for very long, so even cheaper models should last for a long time. There are a number of grinders on the market for as low as $20-30, and the biggest difference is that the smaller grinders tend to take a little longer to clean. They will grind your coffee just as well.
If you have a particular budget for your home coffee needs, a much better use of your cash is to spend it on a nicer coffee brewer. There is a much bigger difference between cheap brewers and expensive brewers, to the point that you will get a noticeably better roast out of fewer coffee beans when you use a nice brewer. So save the money you may be planning on spending on that grinder and put it to a more efficient use instead.
Most cheap coffee grinders are hand held, as opposed to the larger machines that cost more money. You simply pour some beans into it, turn it on, let it run for ten seconds or so, and you have your ground coffee. Larger machines can hold beans and allow you to set how much you grind at once. This is convenient, but does not necessarily lead to better coffee. A cheap coffee grinder will do everything you need it to do for much less money.
