Running an Effective Healthcare Public Relations Campaign
Running a healthcare public relations office can be challenging. With the diversity of advertising mediums currently available, many marketing professionals struggle to find the medium that is right for their needs. However, by blending traditional media advertising with internet marketing and other techniques, PR professionals will discover that they can effectively market their healthcare organization.
Marketing their company can be done, as indicated above, by using a mixture of television ads, print ads, and even radio ads. Frequency is a key part of advertising, and most healthcare companies will discover that they need to advertise in as many places as possible. The more often patients hear a company’s name in a positive light, the more likely they will be to turn to that facility when they need healthcare services.
In addition to TV and radio, many healthcare public relations professionals have recently realized the importance of using internet marketing. Some of this marketing can be bought like banner ads on popular websites and top billing on certain search engines. However, some of the internet marketing can be done more organically. Many PR professionals are hiring bloggers to create a buzz about their business. A blog on the facility’s main page can work to promote exciting aspects of the healthcare company, but when filled with target keywords, it can also be used to attract traffic from the internet. In particular, people who are searching those keywords will be directed to their site.
Reputation management is also a relatively new issue which PR professionals have to address. If a potential patient searches for the healthcare company, they may be presented with complaints about the facility. When a PR professional deals with their online reputation, they must find these complaints. Then, they may address them and try to remove them, or they may bury them in positive internet information.
In addition to those types of advertising, PR professionals will also discover that they need to rely on tried and tested public relations tactics. Most healthcare organizations will benefit if they are seen as a benevolent force in their community. They can achieve this reputation in a variety of ways. For instance, they can sponsor a community fair, or they can invite community members to their facility for a special event. These types of activities promote their business, and they also work to create a positive image.
If any public or private organizations are holding fairs or expos in the area, the healthcare company should try to get involved. If possible, they should have a booth at the event where they can hand out brochures, or if their budget allows, they can become a sponsor of the event. A sponsorship will allow them to post banners and build brand awareness.
Running an effective healthcare public relations campaign can be difficult. However, if a variety of advertising techniques are combined with face to face community marketing campaigns, the PR campaign should be successful. Creating a positive buzz around your healthcare facility is one of the most important parts of working in healthcare PR.
